Clinch tracking and usage

Clinch is a term primarily used in boxing and mixed martial arts (MMA) that refers to a technique where a competitor grabs, holds, or ties up an opponent in order to control their movements, prevent strikes, or set up a takedown.

A fighter should use the clinch technique when they want to neutralize their opponent's striking abilities, wear down their opponent, or set themselves up to execute a high-percentage takedown or submission move.

Some typical positions in a clinch include the Thai clinch (where one fighter holds the opponent's head or neck), the double underhooks (where one fighter has both arms under the opponent's arms), and the over-under position (where each fighter has one arm over and one arm under the opponent's arm).

Clinching is allowed and utilized in various combat sports, such as boxing, Muay Thai, and mixed martial arts (MMA). However, the rules and regulations regarding clinching may differ between disciplines and organizations, as well as the techniques used in each sport.

A fighter can defend against clinch attempts by maintaining good distance management, utilizing high-level footwork, and implementing proper head movement. Additionally, a competitor can establish strong underhooks or overhooks to prevent the opponent from controlling the clinch position.
