Before 1995, the AOLserver was owned by its original developer, Navisoft and it used the name “NaviServer”. From 1999, AOL made the AOLserver as an open-source program. AOLserver uses the Tcl programming language and it is also multi-threaded. Users rely on AOLserver to create comprehensive and intelligent websites. It can be used on many UNIX platforms with ease. It is characterized by its high performance, CGI support, complete C API and SQL Database Services. It also provides Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Hierarchical Access Control.
